Mobile Data

For some time now the pundits have predicted that in the next year or so, more people will access the internet and their e-mail using a mobile device rather than use a computer; we do not share this belief but do recognise the value of having the option of communicating electronically, at virtually any time - from almost anywhere.

The stuff of science fiction not long ago, mobile data is now a viable and cost-effective service, available to the mobile user in a number of forms. You may find it of interest to read a simple overview of the technologies and how they are influencing not only the evolution of the mobile phone but also how they could radically change the way we all use our mobile devices.

This overview also indicates how we are not only witnessing the merger of a number of mobile technologies but how we are also seeing the convergence of "mobile" services with "on-line" services to deliver seamless "solutions" to the end-user.

We are moving towards the environment where the technology is academic and what this technology delivers is paramount, but whilst the industry bandies around acronyms it can be useful to understand what it is that they deliver today - and promise for tomorrow.
